Final Fantasy X Can Suck It

I hate you, Tidus.

I hate you, Tidus.

Final Fantasy X has to be one of the worst pieces of shit that Square has ever squeezed out. It seems to me that the only people who liked this one had no other Final Fantasy games or other RPG’s to compare it against. I find it to be really disturbing that people are ranking the best RPG’s of all time as #1) Final Fantasy VII and #2) Final Fantasy X. I mean seriously, what the fuck? This game is complete bullshit. Let’s take a quick look at how Square completely fucked up the genre they had once revolutionized.

1.) No world map – Yes, instead of an expansive, detailed world just waiting for you to explore (not to mention wander around and level up), you are given a completely linear path in which you can only walk in one direction if you want to progress in the game. That’s total bullshit. Half the fun of any RPG is exploration, and that aspect of the game is taken right out.

2.) Grid Sphere System – What. The. Fuck. So instead of a traditional leveling system we have this incomprehensible grid where you can pick and choose what skills you want each character to learn. Ok, I’ll admit that it sounds cool on paper. But Jesus, did they even fucking test this shit out? It’s ridiculous. You don’t even get more HP or increased stats such as MP or strength when leveling up. No, you just get more moves on the goddamn sphere grid. You have to choose all your moves carefully and use your spheres appropriately, or you won’t learn the right spells at the right times or get all the necessary HP and strength upgrades. It’s fucking retarded, and overly complicates everything. Plus, I don’t even know where any of the cool spells are, so you never know which direction to move to optimize your characters.

I would much rather play this game.

I would much rather play this game.

3.) No Strategies Allowed – As in all previous Final Fantasy games, certain bosses have unique characteristics. For example, in Final Fantasy X, you can choose to either be close to, or far away from the boss, Evrae. Depending on your distance, the attacks you can use and it can use, vary. My first attempt was to stay far away and then move in once its HP had been drained. That didn’t work well, as it pummeled the living shit out of my characters. So the next time I thought I’d do the opposite. Unfortunately, once its HP was low enough, you couldn’t move away from the monster, it kept coming in after you. So basically, you don’t get to use any strategy you want. You have to fight it the way the game wants you to. Why even bother having this “option” in the first place, if they aren’t going to let you use it whenever you want? This is essentially Square’s method of having “fake strategy,” and saying “fuck you” to all the players.

4.) They’ve Been Talking for HOW Long Now? – Jesus. Tapdancing. Christ. They talk, and talk, and talk, and talk, and talk. Forever. In the old games there was tons of dialogue, but if you read fast you could get through it quickly and return to the gameplay. In this piece of shit you have to listen to the horrible voice acting. You can maybe skip half of it if you mash the X button furiously, but that gets old after a while. The dialogue is cheesy, the acting is high school quality, and the story is lame as hell. Plus, the main character, Tidus, is a really annoying asshole. This is the first Final Fantasy game where the main character was my least favorite. The story of the Final Fantasy games is one of the series’ biggest draws. But it’s tough caring about the story when you don’t give a shit about any of the characters.

5.) Graphics – They are blocky and pixellated. The backgrounds look like shit. The only things that really look good are the full-motion videos. Also, lip movements don’t match spoken words, meaning the dubbing was poorly done.

There are probably more complaints that I could add, but I can’t think of anything else at the moment. I can’t believe Square put out this monstrosity. What I can believe, however, is that this is everyone’s second favorite game in the series. People are idiots.

Verdict: Shitty

you’re a moron if you cant follow the sphere grid. each character has a certain path that is best for them and you just hit move in the right direction… just look at it a little bit, and see where each characters path goes, theyre blocked off by lvl 1 and 2 and 3 locks, just ignore those and follow the path you are supposed to have… and yes your hp and str and magic and speed all can be increased on the board. i kind of doubt you even looked at it. the big one that says hp… increases your hp.. by 200 with each one. i leveled my sphere lvl about 10 times on each character and i more than doubled their starting hp. you just sound like a complete moron who can’t pay attention to a story, or plan a character out in advance. jesus i cant imagine if you actually played any harder old rpg’s. its funny you mention them, but you sound just like a typical idiot who just throws names around to seem like an omgleetsauce gamer, when you aren’t. ffx allows for any strategy you want, USING the characters you design. if you are a moron and make them all mishmashed and halfassed you will fail. and get beaten by that laughably easy boss, evrae that kicked your ass lol what a noob. you can switch characters on the fly by hitting r1, you are supposed to make each character fill a niche and use them all.

i kind of doubt you’ve even gotten past the first dungeon in ffx, and i really doubt you’ve actually taken the time to look at each sphere on the grid and plan your characters. idiot, stop blogging and reviewing shit you know nothing about.

and do these comments have any substantial comparison or are they just ffx fan boys. jeezus even if you like the game you have to admit hes completely on point with every opinion. the game is just shite from the dog. plain and simple. just because you like it doesnt mean its good. your bias opinions and flaming anger wont change that. try and call him a noob? even if he is, hes completely right and he didnt even touch blitzball or the 3d modeling inconsistancies between npcs and chars. these replies are hilarious. linear path worse than mystic quest, beyond robotic animation, baby strategy, re-phucking tarded level up system, horrid voice acting, atrocious character design, inconsistant graphics. thats seven strikes. you guys have some pretty abysmal standards to try to argue otherwise.

I like the battle system and the battle theme a lot. Monster parties are really intricate as well. Using every character in 1 fight was really cool.

I have to agree. I’m playing FFX for the first time right now, and I keep complaining about almost everything about it. The sphere grid has got to be among my top 3 complaints, though. It’s micromanaging at its worst. If I’m going to decide how my character’s points get spent, then at least make the process quick and painless like an AD&D game does. Half the time I can barely select the stupid grid point I want because everything is a damn circle in there. Voice acting is atrocious, and the script/story is borderline incomprehensible. My favorite character is Wakka, but after the first few hours of the game he never speaks again it seems. Tidus is annoying, Yuna just says random shit all the time, and the rest are barely relevant to anything. I also personally found the battles to be either mind-numbingly easy, or soul-crushingly unforgiving. I also hate how it’s almost impossible to tell which pieces of equipment are better/more appropriate than others. The game’s a grade-a mess.

I fully agree with you on your rant about this game…so much time is wasted on having to listen/watch the notoriously stupid cut scenes unfold. It becomes more like a cinematic nightmare than a video game..i wasted over an hour on the blitzball game and that was the final straw for me with this piece of shit game. ..whatever happened to actually progressing your characters!! Bah! Square has ruined what was once a great series of games…

This is single handedly, the most cancerous subjective moronic review I’ve ever read. Jesus Christ….

FF10 was one of the best and certainly the last FF in my opinion. Just because one scene is taken insanely out of context in FF10, which is actually meant to be awkward, does not undermine the whole game. It had one the best stories along with some of the best characters and music, it had great strategic gameplay; the sphere grid system was top-notch. The only minor downside was that it was very linear which some people didn’t like, but that meant it told a much better story. If you prefer gameplay over story in JRPGs then you need to think where your priorities lie. I hope your taste in video games gets better if you dislike this game. FF10 bleeds with emotion, it’s a tragic tale that’s fits the tone of the end of Squaresoft, it feels quite symbolic in fact.

Furthermore, FF10 got the same metascore of 92 as FF6 and FF7, with little variation in their userscores (9.1, 9.2 and 8.8 respectively), that puts it somewhat on the same level as them. Certainly a lot better than FF12 which had an average story in my opinion. I believe FF12 had huge potential if Yasumi Matsuno stayed on. Although, FF12 did get 92 on metacritic, that was only by the critics, the userscore of 7.5 speaks for the audience, which is a lot lower against the 8.8 userscore of FF10.

FF10 the last Squaresoft Final Fantasy 😔.
